Tonko Mining Company was incorporated to develop the valuable mineral assets that were discovered during the many years of pursuit in the outdoor hobby of prospecting.  Company President, Johnny F. Tonko, experienced many successes in the quest for silver and gold in the Colorado Mineral Belt region.

While earning his Bachelor of Science degree at Colorado State University, Mr. Tonko was intrigued by the diamond recoveries from the State Line Mining District near Fort Collins, Colorado.  During the severe drought starting in 2002, Mr. Tonko returned to the diamond mining areas to discover several new deposits.  The long drought had exposed diamond bearing kimberlite pipes that had been hidden under water in several of the area’s lakes.  The significance of the diamond finds prompted the creation of the mining company.

In further researching mineral target areas using aerial and satellite images, a previously unknown meteorite impact crater has also been identified near Gunnison, Colorado.  Tonko Mining Company is now making a limited number of specimens from the meteorite crater available to the public and collectors.
